Short answer

Can I download HSBC UK transactions as CSV? Yes for recent transactions, PDF for statements.

HSBC UK online banking lets you download recent transactions as a spreadsheet from the transactions list. The statements are PDFs, and HSBC says it keeps them online for several years. Convert the PDF when you want the whole statement, checked against its balances.

Date once per day
The date is often printed on the first row of a day only, with later rows left blank. The converter fills it in for each row.
Payment type codes
Rows start with a short payment type, such as a card, direct debit or transfer code, with the details on the lines below. They are joined into one description.
Balance brought forward
Lines such as “Balance brought forward” and “Balance carried forward” are balances, not transactions. They are used for the check.

FAQ

HSBC UK statements, answered

HSBC prints the date only once a day. Is that a problem?
No. Rows with no date take the date of the row above them, and the balance check tells you if anything ended up on the wrong day.
How far back can I get HSBC UK statements?
HSBC’s own help page says up to 6 years online, at the time of checking. For older ones, ask HSBC through chat, phone or a branch.
Is this affiliated with HSBC UK Bank plc?
No. Tableaf is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by HSBC UK Bank plc. The name is used only to say which statements this page is about. HSBC UK and its marks belong to their owners.
Is my HSBC UK statement uploaded anywhere?
No. A text PDF is read by code running in your browser and the file you download is built there too. Nothing reaches our servers, and it keeps working offline after your first visit. How we handle your data.
How do I know every HSBC UK transaction was read?
Every statement is checked against its printed opening and closing balances. If they don’t add up, the review screen shows “Off by” with the amount and points at the page or the row where the running balance breaks. Any text PDF should work, and that check is how you know it did.
Does it read a scanned or paper HSBC UK statement?
Not yet. A scan has no text to read, so it needs OCR on a server, which is planned for paid plans. Statements you download from online banking are text PDFs and work today.
